An eyeless doll. Spiritual exploration of Michael Chekhov in relation to Rudolph Steiner’s anthroposophy
The paper presents evolution of Michael Chekhov’s views – from materialism to spiritualist tendencies typical for the early 20th century. It also brings forth the life and work of the Austrian pedagogue and philosopher Rudolph Steiner, stressing his interest in theatre. The author recalls a meeting between Chekhov and Steiner; she describes ways in which the philosopher’s views influenced theatrical ideas of the Russian actor and presents the interests of the creator of the methods of work on a role against the background of spiritual fascinations of his time.
